KP2, the 1st Modular 2-Way Dashcam, Ships with Record Pre-Orders

The new SmartWitness KP2 Modular Dashboard Camera started shipping last month, and it set a company record for pre-orders. Between the time the camera was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show and ready to hit the road, we received orders for thousands of KP2s from customers around the country. That’s because it’s a game changer that solves an upgrade problem that has been plaguing the industry since video telematics was introduced.

  • For the first time, the KP2 enables fleets to convert a road-facing dashcam to a dual road- and driver-facing device without purchasing new two-way cameras or standalone driver-facing units.

  • Simply snap the the KP2’s optional 1” x 1” driver-facing plug-in into the base road-facing dashcam, and you get both road- and driver-facing visibility in one plug-and-play device.

  • This modular, hot-swappable design eliminates the need for wiring changes, field technicians, installation fees or downtime, helping get your fleet back on the road in a heartbeat.

The upshot is that the KP2 gives fleets a flexible and cost-effective upgrade path. It helps eliminate roadblocks from finance departments that (understandably) won’t approve the budget for all-new cameras. And it paves the way for driver-facing upgrades that may eventually be written into union contracts.

Check out the KP2 product page for more KP2 benefits, including easy repair and replacement with no rewiring, ADAS collision avoidance alerting and DSM driver safety monitoring features, and AI event analysis that reduces fleet managers’ workload by significantly reducing erroneous reports of poor driving behavior.

For a deeper dive, read this WorkTruck story about how SmartWitness is reducing dashcam size and cost with a “high cloud/low edge” strategy that avoids the complications of edge overkill. It’s another way that SmartWitness is enabling more fleets to add video documentation that can help improve safety as well as exonerate drivers who are not at fault in traffic incidents.
